It's probably because I was raised by wolves (figuratively speaking) and have never been able to find my tribe that I'm apparently a rarity: a gender critical gay man. I didn't realize that gay men were expected to be good trans allies. But then, as a gay man I'm a mess. Why, I don't even talk gay.
In fact, it aggravates me when I come across a gay man like the former Republican operative and current Never-Trump pundit Tim Miller. He is so all-in on Team Trans that he'll blow a gasket over the notion that anyone would be mean to those poor trans people, for instance, by not wanting trans-identified men playing women's-only sports. There's no use trying to reason with him.
As a former sissy boy, I know exactly why I am a sex realist. If I were the pansy today that I was 60 years ago, I'd have a baby-blue and pink target on my back. Also, I think homosexual transsexuals, if they exist, are tortured objects of pity. And I don't want to see the cross-dressing fetishists they call autogynephiles capture another centimeter of women's single-sex spaces.
It's amazing to me how many gay people (I'm a lesbian) buy into the trans madness. So many of us gays would have been transed away if PGM were a thing 2, 3, 4 decades ago. I a loner in my little town as a GC lesbian. And I live in a family (wife and two children) of trans fanatics. It's rough out here.
I have just pledged a future subscription to support your work. There is so much here and in your other columns I don't find elsewhere -- not just legal expertise, but fairness, rigor and thoroughness. I am a gender-critical lesbian of your mother's generation who fought for gay rights; I am also a retired newspaper and wire service journalist. I respect, admire and appreciate the intelligence and courage implicit in the work you are doing. Thank you.
Thank you for giving me some insight into Michael Hobbes. He’s so terrible. I was a fan of his podcast back in the day until he did the episode on Stonewall. I had happened to have read some books and noticed how careless he was with the truth which made me go back and question so much of his work. And then the whole gender madness and how he treated Jesse.
Why not focus activism on educating families and communities to increase their acceptance of gender non-conformity, rather than mutilating the young people who suffered from that intolerance? Harder and not as exciting.
So well written, researched, thought through, and imbued with true concern. As opposed to the "word salad" (that photo and caption made me laugh aloud) all too often used to try to justify incomprehensible, ideologically driven, abusive nonsense.
The banality of evil . . . our institutions of knowledge are churning out professionals who do not think, and they impose their petty little neuroses and prejudices onto countless innocents by posing as competent professionals, worthy of the responsibility of healing, when all they do is cause more disease.
Yet another thorough, interesting informative and well researched essay. I would say this could be the basis for a CLE course - yes?
Thanks for listing off the 3 lawsuits so I can check them out.
I particularly appreciated knowing that the Endocrine Society and Schumer himself have admitted that there is no known biological basis for the desire to live as the opposite sex - which comes as no surprise to me!
Lastly, as others have said, I loved the photo of the ACLU interns. With such a dark and heavy subject, we have to keep a sense of humor.
I have an alternate view which is close to sociobiology - may be of interest. It links feminism, lesbianism, heterosexuality, gay men and the female mimic phenomenon in a single coherent framework. 11 chapters but the first is the introduction.
"If the world is ruled not by Jews but by penises" But isn't it a man's world? I think not of the Patriarchy, which can sometimes be benign, but of Male Supremacy controlling the global environment and the loyalty of its lackies.

Excellent history Glenna! I also appreciate your illustrative photos, to wit, the ACLU interns preparing word salad, errrrr, reports

Fascinating work. Wow! thank you!

Really nice piece Glenna, thank you!
Thanks again Glenna!

Very well done.

Is Daniel Shumer related to Chuck or Amy?

Fantastic!
They're supposed to have facts ...
What about the older MDs like Drescher and Rosenthal? Ben Ryan talked s bit about this from a related angle: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/05/03/transgender-puberty-blockers-science-cass-report/
